Today we started out with some good ole' mental math.we did some more notes on multiplying/dividing fractions. we learned dot means multiply.mr.maksymchuk is laughing to himself and writing SHHHH!!! on the page, and has just told us to be "lazy math students." we are now to practice for the test.REMEMBER TEST TOMMOROW

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

today in science we did a test on heat, temperature, and properties of matter. We also did a lab report checklist to hand in, and we just started our 1.5 investigation Pre-Lab for Friday.

Scribe for science

Need to finish/Hand in pre-lab.

Finish and hand in diagram for pre-lab
(something you did yesterday in science)

math class, sept. 27

In math class the first thing we did was metal math. We talked about Accelerrated Math and what it is. Its when everybody gets their own paper, so you cant cheat. The program bases it around the math you already know and can do.

Mr. Maksymchuk asked us to find a video about multiplying and dividing integers, so here it is.

Friday, September 23, 2011

today in science we had a substitute teacher Mrs.Holben, she had us work on our pre-lab we had to finish it and print it,then we needed to the physical/chemical properties assignment. After we were finished that we were to work on the matter concept map from the work sheets she handed out.shannon started singing born this way by lady gaga and then she started dancing.
Today in math class we had a sub teacher and we had to Finish all of our work.

Today in class we found out that we are going to have an assessment on Friday, Sept 30. It is on integers, fractions, and rationals. We are working on a booklet that  Mr. Maksymchuk gave us in the beginning of class, this booklet is based on what the assessment will be on. We also watched part of a video about how "new math" is not as good as the "old math", we didnt finish in class because Morganne kept talking hahaha. Mr. Maksymchuk told us if we want to watch the video we have to watch it on our own time.

What is Plasma?

Plasma free electrons from atoms and molecules we all see plasma during the day an example of plasma is the sun its a great big ball of plasma that rips the electrons off the hydrogen and helium molecules and thats how the sun floats it boat and also stars are plasma too since the sun is basically a very large star
At the start of class Mr. Maksymchuk just kinda talked about how we're going to Mrs Larson's lab next week when she's away and that we need to have our pre-lab done for that (we can use his prelab document on google docs -he put a link to it on the blog previously). After that he showed us a video on physical and chemical changes that he also put on the blog.
After that he started to talk about how we should talk on the blog, mentioning that he didnt want any "text talk" meaning he doesn't want people to say lol etc.
We got to look at "prezi" which is a website he (Mr. Maksymchuk) thought we should use instead of powerpoint and showed us one of his presentations. Also mentioning that getting a prezi account is free.
We have to have our pre-lab complete, checked by Mr. Maksymchuk or Mrs. Bobick by the end of the day tomorrow (Sept. 23)
We also have to have the assignment on physical vs. chemical properties assignment done by the end of the day tomorrow (Sept. 23)
*At about 3:25 Mr Maksymchuk said something that made fun of morganne, in the recording.
After he did everything that is on the recording he let us work on our pre-lab and other assignment.
Sept. 22

Physical & Chemical Changes

Yesterday, on Sept 21 In science we worked on our Pre lab assignment, on google docs. There was no video or recording in science it was a basic working class.

Save Yourself a Headache...

and use this link to a template I've created on Google Docs. All you have to do is rename it and it should save within your own account, as long as you're logged in as yourself.

You're welcome! ;)

Today in class we went through "Pre-lab stuff" like what's in every lab. We are making templates in 'Google Docs' for pre-labs.

This is a fraction and integer website.
Under all of this writing is a website that has alot of games to do with integer and fractions and alot of other stuff.

The link above just goes to a bunch grade 9 level games. Including games for fractions and integers.
here is a website for intergers !

Today in science we did a test to see if we knew all of the names to some of the science equipment.
and we had to use boxes beside us so that we wouldnt cheat. And Mr. Maksymchuk was talking to us about fixing up our blog posts.
This is a beaker. It is used to hold liquids.Do not drop, it will break.

These are wooden splints. They are used to test for combustable gas. Careful not to get slivers.

Hey guys we watched some videos on lab saftey in class todaay .

The First Scribe on the blog

We started off with mental math, then went over the scribing directions, then he did a recording and a smartboard thing on Natural numbers - real numbers - integers - rational numbers - irrational numbers - whole numbers. Haha Maksymchuck paused the recording at the three minuite mark and missed a whole bunch of stuff. We learned that an unreal number is _i_.

The following items are science utensils: test tube tongs (used for grabbing test tubes), crucible (used for holding hot liquids), evaporating dish (used for boiling or evaporating liquids), safety glasses (used for protecting eyes).
!Test Tubes and Lab Equipment Related To It!

Below is a picture of a test tube. Test Tubes are used for mixing chemicals or just stuff.  Bre and I were given many of them!

Below is a picture of a Test Tube Rack and a test tube rack holds Test Tubes so that they are not rolling all over the place.

Under all of this very boring writing is a picture of a Test Tube Brush.... Personally I thought it was a tiny toilet brush.... But a test tube brush is used to clean test tubes, NOT TOILETS!

Next is tweezers... or also known as forceps, are used instead of fingers, so that you can grasp small or gross objects... For example, discecting frogs... eww.

This is a teasing Needle
this is a Teezing Needle, it is used to teeze microscopic stuff for examination
This is a scalpel
A scalpel is used for cutting open skin.or cutting through stuff.
dropper

Lab Equipment
These are crucible tongs they are used to pick up hot crucibles .

This is a ring stand, it is used for placing the heat sample directly under the bunsen burner

Wire gauze is used for straining liquids or solids .
Dont touch it your fingers get black !
A tripod stand is used for supporting beakers during heating.

This is a Reagent Bottle
This it a Graduated Cylinder
The use of the Reagent Bottle is primaraly used as to hold a substance like acid.
The Graduated Cylinder is used to accurately measure the volume of liquid.
bunsen burner-used to heat stuff up. hooks up to gas and makes a flame
dissecting sccissors-used to cut tough objects like hearts. They are very sharp and have a pointy end

beaker tongs-used to hold a beaker.able to hold a hot beaker with out burning yourself

What's Supposed to Happen

Hey folks....so I was checking the editable posts section of this blog, and I see that many of you are happily creating and editing your 'first official post'.  They look fine, and it's mostly going the way it's supposed to.  Except for the fact that it seems that some of you can't actually get the 'PUBLISH POST' button to work, for some reason currently unknown to me.  I'm working on it, but be patient, and soon, this blog will take on a life of its own as your (the authors of this blog) start learning more and more from each other.

The rest of this post has all of the elements of what I suggested you'd need in your 'first official post' on the blog.

Don't forget your labels.  See if you can figure out what they're for....
